Schools of Ambition
Orkney Schools of Ambition were represented at a leadership training event during the last two weeks of the autumn term at the Hoy Outdoor Centre. Stromness Academy was represented by S1, S3 and S6 pupils. The residential course involved a mixture of training in leadership skills and positive image building plus an element of team activities led by the outdoor centre staff. The leadership training was led by Will Dollard from The Learning Game , a group who specialise in educational training.
The training experienced by the pupils on this course will be used to enhance and contribute to leadership skill development within all 6 Orkney secondary Schools.
It has already contributed to making new links and friendships between Stromness Academy Pupils and the other Orkney Secondary Schools .
The next step has been involvement with the Learning School . This is an international student research project in collaboration with Cambridge University and Nara Women's University ( Japan ). Senior and post secondary students take the opportunity to become involved in research work regarding aspects of learning in host schools in a number of countries. Learning School Students will be visiting all Orkney secondary schools to study the perception of living in the 21 st century.
