Welcome to Stromness Academy

We are one of two secondary schools in Orkney, based in Stromness and serving all of the West Mainland. For further details of our location click here. At present we have approximately 430 pupils, meaning that the school is large enough to provide all the main academic subjects, but small enough to seem friendly and welcoming. We benefit from being designated a Community School and have extensive sporting and social facilities that are available for use by members of the community.

The Academy is fully comprehensive and classes comprise pupils of differing abilities. Broadly, the aims of the school are the intellectual, personal and social development of pupils through provision of an appropriate curriculum, varied teaching methods, a motivating assessment policy and an active and supportive Guidance system. An emphasis is placed on harmonious relationships, based on mutual consideration and respect, and on the creation of an atmosphere in which pupils feel secure and equally valued.
